How many sessions will I need before I start sleeping better?
Many people see some significant results after just the one session. For more deep rooted problems up to three sessions may be required.
What happens during a typical hypnotherapy session for sleeplessness and insomnia
We will simply begin with a chat to find out a bit more about your sleeplessness. The more I understand about what you are going through, the easier it will be to tailor the hypnotherapy to suit your exact needs. We will then work together to explore how to make your sleep environment as relaxing as possible.
The hypnotherapy starts with some simple relaxation and visualisation techniques. Your mind is made up of two parts – the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. Your conscious mind knows that you need to sleep, however it is your subconscious mind which controls your behaviour.
When you are in a relaxed hypnotic trance, we can access your subconscious mind to develop a better sleeping pattern and say goodbye to the frustration of sleeplessness. By making the changes at the subconscious level, they are more deeprooted and longer lasting.
During the hypnotherapy session, you will
- Practice and learn relaxation and visualisation exercises to help both your mind and body relax and prepare for sleep
- Learn self hypnosis to give you the tools to help yourself in the future
- Discover techniques to drown out any distractions such as a busy road or a snoring partner
- Find out how to make your sleeping environment as comfortable as possible
- Learn how to reprogramme your mind with new helpful sleep habits.

Some top tips to get a good night’s sleep
- Avoid nicotine, alcohol, caffeine and eating for at least two hours before going to bed.
- Try to take at least 20 minutes exercise each day. This doesn’t have to involve a trip to the gym or an exercise class. Simply a brisk walk in the fresh air will help ideally several hours before you go to bed.
- Clear out the clutter from your bedroom and remove the TV. Your bed should be for two activities only - sleep and sex!
- Turn the TV off at least an hour before you go to bed. You may think that television relaxes you. It is actually a stimulant and leads to your mind racing as you get into bed. Try reading a book, taking a warm bath or listening to some soft relaxing music.
- If you are unable to fall sleep, get up after 20 minutes of trying and go and do something else instead. By lying in bed tossing and turning, you simply end up more and more stressed and frustrated about not being able to sleep.
